Well that’s it, I’ve officially made it through my first semester as a trainee teacher! Wahoo! A lot has happened in the last few months and I’m really enjoying the course and my teaching which is a bonus. I have had two of my teaching observations, handed in one assignment, and learnt an awful lot to the point my head is almost exploding! I have a lot to work on over Christmas and in the near future but I really am excited for what the future holds for me. I just need to master spinning plates of all the things I need to be doing at once while teaching a class to make sure I’m covering everything, which is more than I ever thought it would be, but it’s okay, I embrace the challenge and by May I hope to be a Grade 2 Good teacher, but hopefully I’ll be a Grade 1 Outstanding. But we shall have to wait and see, and of course, I’ll keep you posted!
Today marks the start of a well deserved Christmas break. And also means it is now time to relax a little bit, starting with putting the decorations up today, which I absolutely love doing. And no decoration session is complete without Christmas music or a Christmas film on in the background. Which today I have opted for a couple of my old time favourites; Elf and Miracle on 34th Street. Both are fantastic Christmas films and really get me into the spirit.
I’m really looking forward to my 2 and a 1/2 weeks off from uni and placement, but they’re not really weeks off, as a teachers work is never done, well a PGCE students isn’t anyway! I have three assignments to work on all due in in January, and lots and lots of files and documents to be working on for my practical teaching file. But I plan to at least take Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day off for family time/relaxation, and I’ll chip away at my workload on the other days. Whilst taking lots of breaks and eating far too much food of course, it is Christmas after all. It isn’t complete unless you are absolutely stuffed and gain at least half a stone before January.
Anyway, I’m waffling on now, so here’s my Christmas decorations, lots of homemade ones this year. I made one of them bauble wreaths that everyone has been hyping about, made my own garland for my living room (originally for my stairs but it’s too big!), and I have homemade gingerbread men on my tree. I have a 7ft tree with pine cones and berries on and have gone for traditional Christmas colours; red green and gold. Let me know what your decoration theme or colours are if you have one, and feel free to post your photos in the comments below.
